60th birthday plans get a £700 boost

Bon Marche ShowOver 700 was raised at a Bon Marché Fashion Show held at the Pomegranate Theatre on April 21, an idea suggested by Annie Gudgeon as part of fundraising efforts to support the theatre’s sixtieth anniversary in 2009.

Annie, who works at the shop and as a member of the theatre’s Front of House team, persuaded colleagues and members of the Chesterfield Theatre Friends to be models and worked very hard to publicise and sell tickets for the event.

An audience of 150 were shown a variety of clothes from the David Emanuel Collection in addition to leisure and evening wear and were served refreshments by volunteers from the Friends group in the interval.

In keeping with the theatrical setting, two popular characters from “Turkey and Tinsel” also made an appearance when Carole Copeland and Sheila Young briefly reprised their comic roles as ‘Vera and Lily’.

Michael McGwyre one of the Pomegranate’s duty managers, and a regular performer at Hasland Theatre, was prevailed upon to act as MC and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

A raffle was held for the Macmillan Nurses Charity, which is supported by Bon Marché.

Fundraising Success!

Members of the newly constituted Chesterfield Theatre Friends provided encouragement with their commitment over Christmas and the New Year when a very small group gave their time to sell tickets for the Panto Prize Draw – and raised £3,532 towards the 2009 celebrations. This is in addition to Dot Clarke’s cheque for £250 on behalf of Young Inspirations (“To get the ball rolling”) and a cash donation from one of our FoPs.  Chesterfield Playgoers Society has also pledged a substantial donation, towards much needed stage equipment, and our Christmas Fair raised almost £500.

The group is also planning further activities, including a Bon Marché Fashion Show on Monday 21 April at 7.30pm
and a possible Fun Run but the next big project will be another Prize Draw aimed at a different wider audience.

If you would like to know more about the group’s activities in the meantime please contact Mike Spriggs (Chair) on 01246 233475 or Peggy Grubb (Secretary) on 01246 272460. It’s not too late to volunteer your ideas or your help!
