There is a split between the ages, ensuring that performances are age-appropriate, Junior’s, Intermediates and Seniors. As director of the Pomegranate Youth Theatre (PYT), Carole Copeland has access to the cream of local writers. For two of their annual productions, the PYT have been fortunate to work with local writers who have produced plays for the group. Inspiration is often found from the group’s great improvisation skills. In their former productions – ‘Our Day Out’ and ‘Let Sleeping Bags Lie’, the group worked with a wealth of professional actors, benefiting from their experience and talent. Their productions are also supported by the skilful musical direction of Richard Stone who succeeds in adapting current popular music with new and inspired lyrics. Other productions have been ‘Impro’ for the market festival last year and ‘Animal Farm’ earlier this year. PYT has also been working closely with the Chesterfield Borough Council for performances for Equality Day and Holocaust Memorial Day, directed by Sheila Young. The Pomegranate Youth Theatre also take part in the annual ‘Young Peoples Festival’ at the Pomegranate Theatre. They are also looking forward to a production of ‘O What a Lovely War’ in partnership with ‘Talking Scarlet Theatre Company’ later in the year. The PYT share Brief Candles Rehearsal space (which is the Old Court House near Chesterfield Station). They meet on Friday evenings at the following times: Juniors 5.30pm - 6.30pm led by Stacey Brunt If you are interested in learning all aspects of Stagecraft and joining the Pomegranate Youth Theatre, please contact Carole Copeland on 01246 345215 or by email at carole.copeland@chesterfield.gov.uk
